Record artworks

Inspired by a passion for music and the BBC Radio 4 programme “Desert Island Discs”, Blueprint Records are an original gift idea for any occasion such as a birthday, wedding, leaving present etc. Every artwork is similar but totally unique due to the blueprint process (cyanotype), and spinning table used during the making process. I make a batch of prints every month.

This is an all blue Blueprint Record. Every Record comes with a standard central label which can then be replaced by your own unique label with album title/ tracks etc.

A colour Blueprint Record

The record labels are white writing on blue background. The central hole has a tiny mirrored back to it (as seen in the light reflected here). Every print is signed, and comes with an embossed hand logo in the bottom right corner.

The personalised label

The price includes the cost of a custom made central label. You can opt to get the label made at the time of the purchase, or create the label at any point in the future. This means the recipient can choose the tracks for themselves (if you don’t know what their special track/s are. A card is included in the purchase price with a unique code, that instructs you what to do. There are a choice of six labels aimed at different types of occasion (see below).

Both buying options include a hand stamped card like this.

Ordering the custom label

If you know the tracks you want, and would like me to make the label for your record immediately, just message me after your purchase. I’ll put your record artwork to one side and design the record label with your words and tracks. I will send you an image of the label artwork before I make it and make any changes if required.

The complete record artwork (with the custom label), will then be sent to you. The artwork includes a unique card like the one shown below. The card is made using the acetate negative that was used to make the record label. I can write a message in the card if you would like it sent directly to the recipient.

I pride myself in giving a personal service to every commission, and have always received positive feedback.

Blueprint Records come with these unique cards made from the acetate negative used to make the label.

Selecting the record label style for your occasion

Select the label style (A-F), to suit your occasion, then visit the contacts page and send me the information. I will send you an image of the label before I print it for your approval. The wording in red is what I suggest you customise, but you can change anything, for example some customers have changed the RPM speed to the number of a special birthday such as 50 RPM.

I’ve designed and made lots of record labels, be as creative as you like.

Information required (by email) to complete your record label design

  1. Your name and telephone number.

  2. The record label design you would like (A-F)

  3. A list of your your track/s: Please ensure all words are spelt correctly including the correct capitalisation of the tracks. I will change obvious errors, but it’s easy to miss things.

  4. Any words for the customisation of the label. Please quote the line numbers next to the red text on each of the label designs.

  5. The address to send the artwork to (recorded delivery).

  6. Words for the hand written card if required.

  7. Please let me know if I can keep your contact details (data protection consent), and post an image of your artwork on my website/ social media. If you can send me a photograph of the person receiving it even better, then I could even give you small discount on another artwork.

Special editions

If you want something a bit different please contact me. Prices will vary depending on the complexity. I can also produce the prints with extra large white borders, I did this for a wedding and everybody signed it.

Framing

Contact Mark Johnson on 01453 890566 and ask for a record frame and he’ll make one for you using solid wood, real glass and make a circular mount all for £35 and that includes postage and packing. The frames come in black, white and oak. Allow 7 working days for delivery. Once the frame arrives, simply take off the back and insert your record artwork. The dimensions of the artworks are 35cm x 35cm, this allows for a decent size border. They’re printed on high quality, thick paper (300gsm).

Preserving your artwork: Blueprinting is a photographic process, and like any photograph and most artworks can be affected by sunlight, so the rule is don’t hang your artwork in direct sunlight. Asking for UV protective glass will help but it’s not essential. Anna Atkins blueprints from the 1840’s still look great today.

Visit the shop for all purchases and contact me if you have any questions.

Thank you for visiting and if you have made an order thank you again…. I’ll make it with love and care X
